FlatRacer BMW Nardo Sport 1/2 seat
We designed this seat to fit on our own R100 RS project as we wanted something similar to the Hans Muth designed 3/4 seat but shorter and lower for a sleeker look.
The original BMW R100 RS 3/4 solo seat was first shown as a BMW standard equipment on the 1976 BMW R100RS and as option for all /7 models after 1978. It is an incredibly rare original seat nowadays, despite being available few years ago from BMW by special order, albeit at cost of well over £1000 for the complete assembly!
Originally designed by the BMW R90S design master, Hans Muth, it proved a popular option at the time, not only with the R100RS! Stylish and comfortable, offering positive seat positioning for the more sporting rider although not overly popular with pillions despite the euphemistic "Seat an' Half" nickname.
Our Nardo Sports 1/2 seat was developed by us to complement our replica 3/4 seat but offering a shorter, lower and sleeker version for those customers wishing for a more slimmed down look.
As per our usual practice, it is our mission of producing seats for these bikes with superlative build quality and attention to detail for discerning customers. The hand build nature of these seats is of the highest quality, in fact better than the original, ditching the metal bases as they rust notoriously.
The FlatRacer Nardo Sports 1/23 seat fits on the R90S frame, /7 Series and Mono (minor mods required) exactly as per the original.
It features a seat base made GRP, for corrosion resistance and long working life, finished in semi-gloss black, for that original look, extra strong (5 to 10+mm thick), reinforced with woven roving (similar to yacht construction methods), flexible yet nigh on unbreakable. No more rusted and broken seats!
Fitted with a very precise and accurate replica of the original seat base, trimmed to suit, shortened cover and foam, with patterns and dimensions exactly as BMW/Hans Muth designed it in 1975. It includes an excellent quality pattern rear cowl, based on the original 3/4 seat (albeit sans hand cowls), made of sturdy GRP (as per the original), finished in glossy white (glossy black available at extra cost). It also includes an original OEM 70mm BMW logo (with pressed lettering) to complete the original look.
The seat base is pre-trimmed, drilled and pre-fitted with M4 rinuts and s/s bolts to accept the original service booklet lid (fitted for illustration purposes only - no longer available new from BMW).
Special care was given to the edges and drilling points with each seat assembly individually checked and finished by hand by us and trial fitted to a rolling frame to ensure it fits perfectly.
The seat cover is made of very high quality vinyl, hot pressed with the correct pattern as per the originals, double skinned and padded and held carefully in place by our own and exclusive set of stainless steel hold trim, riveted in place like the originals.
It includes our own upgraded laser cut stainless steel hinges, zinc plated steel locking rod and its conical rubber stop, all the required rubber stops (bolt on with M5 CSK bolts, allowing adjustment in height to suit each sub-frame and setting) plus all the necessary seat pre-fitted s/s fasteners (M5 flanged button head).
Uniquely, our rubber stops are bolt on with stainless steel M5 CSK bolts and are adjustable in height for a perfect fit on the sub-frame unlike the originals that never sat properly and put undue stress on the hinges (first place to rot and fall through)
