BMW Airhead Boxer stainless steel Kinematic short gear lever

FR BMW s/s kinematic gear lever

FlatRacer BMW R2v Airhead Boxer stainless steel Kinematic short gear lever

FlatRacer BMW R2v Airhead Boxer stainless steel Kinematic short gear lever

Fits all BMW Airhead Boxer models fitted with the original 5 ratio (speed) gear box, introduced with the /6 Series in 1973 and regularly updated and improved by BMW until the end of production, in 1996.

This Kinematic short gear lever assembly includes:

  • 1 x FlatRacer stainless steel gear lever selector shaft
  • 1 x FlatRacer stainless steel adjustable short gear lever - accepts M6 rose joint or M6 clevis.
  • 1 x Stainless steel retainer circlip
  • 1 x Stainless steel M6 long bolt
  • 1 x Stainless steel M6 wave washer

Designed and developed by us, precisely machined out of 304 grade stainless steel for minimal maintenance, long working life and corrosion proof.

Our s/s gear lever is a direct replacement for the often rusted or damaged post September 1978 BMW Kinematic short gear lever. This particular lever was used on all post 78 BMW R2v Boxer 5 speed gearboxes, including the off road models such as the G/S, GS and Paralever models (81-96) although these had the lever positioned differently.

The short gear lever allows adjustment so it can be positioned in several ways to suit your specific requirements, including the differently positioned GS levers.

Particularly useful for the use of rear sets, as fitted on our 1973-1977 rear sets (BMW /6 and early /7 Series).

It can be used to replace the gear pedal fitted to the /6 Series and early /7 (73-77) in order to fit rear sets.

Outstanding period look, sturdiness, quality and durability.

IMPORTANT:

1 - In order to fit this gear lever, the original lever or pedal needs to be removed. You will either need to drain and re-fill the gearbox or lean at an acute angle the bike to the side so the oil moves to one side, allowing to fit remove and fit the gear lever without having to drain the box.

2 - When fitting the gear lever, look closely at the rubber seal and check for dirt, damage or wear, clean or replace as required. Positioning of our gear lever is exactly as per the original item so take note when removing it.

3 - When fitting rear sets, these commonly use a remote linkage rod to operate the gear lever. This may interfere with the kick start pedal if fitted. Adjustments (fitting the rod and lever upside down) or abstaining from the use of the pedal may be required.

Similar assembly also available for the earlier BMW /5 Airhead Boxer models fitted with the earlier 4 speed gearboxes (70-73). Please see out other listing for more details.
